The Origin Story
Today, we’re sharing the story of how the brand, I Fucking Love Your Hair and the salon, We Fucking Love Your Hair, came to be. Buckle up, because this tale is filled with passion, perseverance, and a sprinkle of serendipity.
The Spark of Joy: Stickers and Spontaneity
Our story begins with Franky, a badass stylist with a knack for creating hair masterpieces. One day, as she admired her handiwork, she couldn’t help but exclaim, “I fucking love your hair!” This impulsive outburst captured her joy and passion perfectly, and soon, she began printing stickers with the phrase to spread the love. Handing them out to people she met, Franky’s simple goal was to spread joy and make people smile. Little did she know, this spontaneous act would spark a movement.
The stickers became an instant hit. People loved the raw, unfiltered expression of appreciation, and before Franky knew it, she was inundated with requests for more. The phrase “I Fucking Love Your Hair” took on a life of its own, capturing the hearts of many and setting the stage for something bigger.
From Stickers to Studio: Embracing the Brand
Initially hesitant about turning this newfound fame into a brand, Franky eventually saw the potential. She embraced the idea wholeheartedly, creating a kick-ass website and building a strong social media presence. With 16K followers on Instagram and 25K on TikTok, her hobby had transformed into a booming business. This journey proved that sometimes, the most successful ventures sprout from the most unexpected beginnings.
But the road to success wasn’t without its bumps. In 2019, after 11 years of sacrificing important life moments (like weddings, birthday parties and friend celebrations of various kinds) and pouring her heart and soul into her job as a hairstylist and leadership position as an educator, Franky hit a wall. Burnout struck hard, leaving her resentful, lost, and on the verge of quitting the hair industry altogether. Overwhelmed and unsure of her next steps, she sought help and tapped into resources from multiple business mentors.
The Leap of Faith: Opening the Studio
With her mentor Cyd Charisse’s guidance, Franky found the courage to take a leap of faith. On March 10, 2020, she fearlessly flung open the doors to her very own private studio, aptly named I Fucking Love Your Hair. Despite the unprecedented times, Franky's relentless hustle paid off in explosive growth. Within just two years, she had hired two badass employees and expanded the brand to include We Fucking Love Your Hair.
Growth and Expansion: Finding the Dream Location
Although the micro salon provided a cozy setting, Franky knew she wasn’t done growing. The fear of expanding into a “real” salon, coupled with some serious existential dread, led her to hire her second mentor, Nikola Salter. After almost two years of searching, Franky discovered a literal dream location in the West Town, Ukrainian Village neighborhood of Chicago. This new space was perfect for bringing her vision to life on a larger scale.
